The trial of Julia DeLuney, 53, accused of murdering her 79-year-old mother Helen Gregory in Khandallah, begins today at the High Court in Wellington.
DeLuney, who pleaded not guilty, was denied name suppression despite concerns about media coverage.
Gregory was remembered by neighbours as a kind, active woman and devoted grandmother.
DeLuney has been on electronically monitored bail since her arrest, and the trial is expected to run for four weeks, with the Crown calling over 100 witnesses.
