Accounting software firm Xero has commissioned an independent review into how it handled past misconduct allegations involving its former CEO Sir Rod Drury, following renewed scrutiny after he was named 2026 Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year.
The claims, reportedly raised by a junior employee in 2017 prompted an earlier internal investigation.
According to state media, Xero has now engaged external counsel Maria Dew KC to reassess both the allegations and the company’s response, while noting limitations due to confidentiality.
The Awards Office said no concerns were identified during its vetting process but would review any new information, as Prime Minister Christopher Luxon declined to comment on the matter citing ongoing inquiries. Major sponsor Kiwibank said it was aware of the situation and stressed the need for fair and appropriate processes as the issue unfolds.
