Togo midfielder Samuel Asamoah, 31, is at risk of paralysis after breaking his neck in a violent collision with an advertising board during a Chinese league match.
Playing for Guangxi Pingguo, Asamoah was shoved by an opponent and hit the LED panel head-first, suffering multiple neck fractures and nerve damage.
His club confirmed he underwent surgery and is now in stable condition, though facing possible “high-level paraplegia.”
The opposing player received a yellow card for the shove. Asamoah, who previously played in Belgium and has six international caps for Togo, joined the Chinese second division in 2024.
