Chiefs dominate second half to avenge Grand Final loss against Blues

The Chiefs secured a hard-fought 25-14 victory over the Blues at Eden Park, avenging last year’s grand final defeat.

All Black Damian McKenzie starred with two crucial second-half tries, capitalising on strong forward play and a successful switch to fullback.

The Blues, who led in the first half with tries from Dalton Papali’i and AJ Lam, failed to score after the break as the Chiefs’ defense and impact from their All Blacks bench shut them down.

Leroy Carter’s debut try and Cortez Ratima’s tactical brilliance off the bench sealed the win, leaving the 25,200-strong home crowd disappointed.

The Blues now face the Highlanders in Dunedin, while the Chiefs prepare to host the Crusaders.
