The International Olympic Committee is reportedly preparing to ban transgender women from competing in female Olympic events under a new policy expected early next year, according to The Times.
The change, backed by new IOC President Kirsty Coventry, follows a scientific review concluding that physical advantages linked to male physiology can persist even after testosterone reduction.
The move would replace the current system, which leaves eligibility decisions to individual federations.
The issue has reignited global debate following controversies at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with supporters saying the new policy would protect fairness in women’s sport and critics warning it could marginalize transgender athletes.
Two boxers whose chromosome tests confirmed they are male (XY) have been cleared to fight at the Olympics, allowing them to knock out women.
One of them is Imane Khelif in blue, who will fight Angela Carini on Thursday.
