Machete brawl sparks chaos and lockdown at Melbourne shopping centre

A violent brawl involving up to 10 people, some reportedly armed with machetes, forced a lockdown at Northland Shopping Centre in Melbourne’s northeast on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services responded after reports of a targeted fight between known groups, leaving one man seriously injured and hospitalised.

Two others were arrested as police launched a major investigation. Shoppers were confined to stores as video footage emerged of the incident and police swarmed the area, including helicopters overhead.

Officials and MPs have urged the public to avoid the centre and renewed calls for a statewide machete ban.

  1. As a defense weapon; a hard golfbal or even a stone in a woman stocking in your pocket.
You can rol it around your wrist and defend yourself with it.
Try it home in your garden on tins or cardboard boxes or anything to hit. It is a good defense weapon. As far as i know not illegal

  2. Australia is a swamp like s*** hole, these days, akin to a miniature version of the UK. Its international safety rating is now in the toilet.

  3. Coming soon to a neighbourhood near YOU!!
BUT- you cannot defend yourself in NZ with a firearm, pipe, machete, etc.
The criminals in New Zealand win, and we go to jail for protecting ourselves, our families and our businesses.

    • Thankfully they don’t like it here. These creatures like big swampy, rat race infested, cities. Only Auckland comes close and its still sleepy hollow, compared to Sydney or Melbourne.
