Consumer NZ has criticised New World and Pak’nSave for quietly removing the ability to sort items by price on their websites, a feature still offered by other retailers like The Warehouse and Woolworths.
Consumer NZ spokesperson Chris Schulz told state media the change, which defaults sorting to popularity, could limit consumer choice and potentially inflate profit margins by promoting higher-margin items.
While Foodstuffs, which operates both chains, claims it’s upgrading its platform for “better transparency”, Schulz and marketing expert Bodo Lang argued that removing price sorting hinders informed choices and disproportionately affects “vulnerable shoppers”.
Lang suggested this decision may have been deliberate, questioning its alignment with “transparent pricing principles”.
Scammers
I noticed this at least a month ago. Thought it must be a bug at first, but more obvious now.
They are leaches in our society.
Evil greedy scumbags.
Solution: Use local farmers markets.
It’s so simple. Cut the nasty b*stards out.
