Government accused of using ‘financial illiteracy’ claims as excuse for Te Whatu Ora board dismissal

Health NZ news
Dr. Curtis Walker (Inset).

Former board member of Health NZ Dr. Curtis Walker has criticised the government’s claims of financial mismanagement, saying they were disinformation used as a pretext for the board’s dismissal.

Walker, a kidney specialist and former Medical Council chairperson, argued that the accusations of financial illiteracy were unwarranted and served merely to justify the appointment of Dr. Lester Levy as commissioner.

Despite Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s assertions of inadequate financial oversight, Walker insists these claims are false, akin to Luxon’s previous incorrect statement about the excessive management layers within Health New Zealand.

In response to Walker’s rebuttal, Luxon remained focused on his commitment to enhancing “health outcomes for New Zealanders”, avoiding a direct response to the criticisms.

Walker told state media the board had taken proactive steps to address financial concerns on discovering a deficit in March, with members asking the same questions currently being asked by the commissioner.

  1. Maybe Walker could explain in a financially literate way how $130,000,000 disappears every month into the health hellhole.

  2. Most people I have met that are involved in management of health care,(ie not doctors or nurses) are full of self entitlement and believe they deserve a higher wage than qualified medical experts, that’s where the cash is

  3. On discovering the deficit in March? That’s a HELL of a lot of money to not be aware about. What is the point of a board if they are that financially illiterate?

I watched this guy on some online presentation. You don’t see much mentioned about personal health responsibility or the fact people with darker skin need MORE vitamin D exposure. Vitamin D is essential for good health, immunity, wellbeing etc These are BASIC things people can do to improve their health outcomes. Why is this not being discussed? It’s all everyone else’s fault apparently. Maori think they are discriminated against in the health system…..um NO. The health system is Sh1t for all of us. I will change my view when I start to hear these so called caring doctors start talking about personal responsibility. Don’t give me poverty either, takeaway food is more expensive than the food I cook for our family. Laziness isn’t poverty. Laziness isn’t colonialism.

These kind of people only talk about money and colonisation. No doubt he got into his university courses off the back of his ethnic background and yet all we see is people playing the victim/colonisation card. Apparently he hasn’t worked out that money IS a colonial concept……just like his university education, and the drugs and treatments he no doubt prescribes.

A bit of self reflection at the hypocrisy would be a good place to start.
