Te Pāti Māori MP Takutai Tarsh Kemp has been diagnosed with kidney disease and will be taking a six-week leave from Parliament to focus on her health and treatment.
The party announced Kemp’s condition on Instagram, explaining that she had been feeling unwell and underwent thorough testing, which led to the diagnosis.
Kemp’s departure from Parliament comes after a narrow victory in last year’s election, where she won the Tāmaki Makaurau seat by just four votes over Labour MP Peeni Henare. Before her parliamentary role, Kemp served as the chief executive of Manurewa Marae, which has recently faced multiple serious allegations including the misuse of census data for the party’s election campaign.
