Police have confiscated drugs, firearms, cash, motorcycles, and vehicles following coordinated raids at two properties in Whanganui on Wednesday evening.

At around 7:30 p.m., police teams, including the Armed Offenders Squad, simultaneously executed search warrants at locations on Victoria Avenue and in Springvale.

During the raids police seized a firearm, 700 grams of methamphetamine, three motorcycles, two vehicles, and over $30,000 in cash.

A cannabis-growing operation was also uncovered.

One person was taken into custody at the scene, while another individual later surrendered at Whanganui Police Station. Both suspects are facing drug and firearm-related charges and are expected to appear in court.

Detective Sergeant Craig Gorringe praised the success of the operation, stating, “These individuals pose a threat to public safety through illegal firearm possession and the supply of drugs to vulnerable members of our community. It is always a positive outcome when we can remove such dangers and hold offenders accountable for the significant social harm they cause.”

The police are urging members of the public to report any concerns about gang-related criminal activity in their communities.

Reports can be made by calling 111 for immediate incidents or online through the 105 service for non-emergencies. Anonymous tips can also be submitted via Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
