A 34-year-old man has been charged with murder and attempted murder following a violent incident at a home in Fairfield, police have confirmed.
The man, who is currently in stable condition under police guard at a hospital, is set to appear before the High Court in Hamilton on Tuesday, February 4.
The incident resulted in the death of a baby, while a woman and another child remain hospitalised in serious but stable condition.
Detective Inspector Andrew Saunders extended condolences to the family, stating, “We extend our sympathies to the whānau at this tragic time and will provide ongoing support.”
Police continue to examine the property on Douglas Crescent and are interviewing multiple individuals to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy. Detective Inspector Saunders reassured the community, saying this was an isolated event and posed no further risk to the public.
