Police Minister Mark Mitchell has defended the success of the Limited Service Volunteer (LSV) programme for troubled youths, despite documents revealing severe mental distress and physical assaults among the staff running it.

The six-week course, operated by the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) and Ministry of Social Development (MSD), is viewed as a model for proposed boot camps. However, reports to ministers highlighted increasing assaults on staff and severe mental health issues, including suicidal ideation, among military personnel.

Mitchell told state media today that NZDF staff participate voluntarily and are resilient leaders dedicated to helping troubled youth avoid the adult justice system.

Critics argue there is no evidence that boot camps reduce reoffending, and concerns have been raised about the stress imposed on NZDF staff.

Labour leader Chris Hipkins criticised the boot camp model, suggesting it could cause more harm than good and advocating for more intensive mentoring and wraparound support to address the underlying dysfunction in young offenders’ lives.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon remains committed to the initiative, asserting the need to try new approaches despite criticisms.

The LSV programme reportedly achieves a 70% success rate in transitioning participants into training or employment, but the debate over its effectiveness and impact on staff continues.

  1. All of which fails to address the elephant in the living room, inequality, poverty and a lack of meaningful job opportunities……much of which can be laid at the door of neo liberalism which has ruined NZ since he mid 1980’s, when introduced by the Liebour half wits……and perpetuated by them and the nasty Nats………

    • You mean… the Zionist-based Nazional Party…!
Maybe Gunnery Sergeant Hartman (Full Metal Jacket, played by R. Lee Ermey) needs to be resurrected earlier than the others, similar to ‘Frighteners’ ie the cemetery scene!
But, that’s where a good majority of the population is headed- to the cemeteries by globalist designs via holodomor-style mass starvations, bad medicine, and ‘Sozial Kredit’ profiling.
Gang recruiting has never been better, due to the Masonic class warfare that rages underneath the surface of Kiwi Society.
