NZ flag bearer arrested after being accosted by Hikoi member

Phil Engell news

A man carrying a New Zealand flag was accosted in a heated confrontation on Chapel Street in Masterton during a protest led by the Hīkoi mō te Tiriti yesterday.

The NZ flag-bearer, identified by Counterspin Media as Phil Engel was carrying the flag near the protest site when he was shoved by one of the movement’s leaders, resulting in a scuffle initiated by the Hikoi member that left his flag broken.

The altercation, which occurred in full view of bystanders, was captured on video and later uploaded to X by Counterspin. The footage shows Engell being manhandled as the flag was forcibly taken from him and broken.

Despite the video evidence, police have charged Engell with disorderly behaviour.

  1. This is what happens when “we the people” have ALLOWED our successive governments/politicians since 1975 to tiptoe us towards APARTHEID Aotearoa, all on the taxpayers sweat equity. The corporate state government is “we the peoples” real enemy.

  2. This Nation needs to simmer down, and look at who / what are sowing the problems…
Strange how a person can be arrested for flying a NZ Flag, while the Maori Flag bearers were left alone. Again, another double-standard in Policing.
The last political party that insisted on equal rights for everyone under a ratified Constitution was the NZ Loyal Party, which disappeared as quickly as it appeared. (A political mechanism used to profile “Radical Reformists’ before a political dissident round-up perhaps?).
Seymour was noted by his absence during the first vote when further Firearms Legislation was enacted knee-jerk style under Jabby after the Christchurch Mosque disaster. His was the only final vote to oppose the illegal Firearms Legislation outlawing MSSA Firearms, as such violates the UN Right to Self Defence under Chapter 7, Article 51 which is interpreted to supercede NZ law by UN Treaty Agreement.
Seymour’s constituency is also heavily J3wi$h in his (s)electorate by his own admission. Hence, he is the Marco Rubio of New Zealand.
I have yet to see or hear him comment on the genocides in Palestine, Syria and Lebanon!

  3. A victim
    A minority group
    A rallying call
We know through the Christchurch Mosque debacle that the govt including the police and judiciary have been infiltrated compromised and subverted
Problems like the truth don’t go away
    And come back to bite

  4. This is all the natural procession of UNDRIP designed absolutely to first divide and then conquer
    – not actually to benefit indigenous in any way, and happening worldwide –
NZ, OZ, US and Canada all smelt a rat in 2007 and rejected the doctrine but…
NZ officially adopted UNDRIP in 2010
NZ1st (2023) ensured (post 2019) that UNDRIP is not legally binding in NZ
which clearly this hikoi has been implemented (by the UN) to change…
