Teachers report alarming decline in children’s language skills

A significant number of five-year-olds are starting school with poor language skills, a problem teachers attribute to the impacts of Covid-19 and excessive screen time.

A report by the Education Review Office (ERO) highlights that more than a quarter of teachers in low-income areas observe that most of their students have oral language skills below the expected level, with some children unable to speak in coherent sentences.

Teachers express concerns about the long-term effects, noting that the language deficiencies hinder both communication and comprehension in the classroom.

The ERO study outlined that the pandemic has severely affected social communication skills, with nearly two-thirds of teachers reporting setbacks in children’s language development.

Early childhood educators have also noticed these issues, with some children using simple or incoherent language regardless of context. The report highlights the strong link between early language skills and later literacy and numeracy, recommending increased support for early childhood education, particularly in low-income communities, to address these developmental delays and improve educational outcomes.

    • Absolutely agree, Cindy. There was a lot more to mask wearing than the bogus claim of slowing transmission. It prevents full communication significantly as non-verbal signals are an intricate ingredient to learning and understanding.

Yes, I read the report and was greatly saddened by this current situation brought on in no small way by the lockdowns imposed by the Labour Government during the Covid plandemic, and nonsense surrounding it. And, so, we are reaping another consequence of global elite plan. Where to from here.?

  2. This is happening all over the world. Here in the banana republic of NZ, you can thank the likes of Liebour and their cheerleaders, including the Natzi’s for this outcome, during the scamdemic. Masks and isolation are not good for anyone’s language skills.

  3. It’s the effect of cognitive decline due to the vaccine nano-tech and brain prions being altered.
    Has anyone noticed the behaviours of others in the supermarkets, malls and in the workplace (those who still have jobs…)?
    Breathing in one’s own carbon dioxide expelled breath which is a poisonous gas also contributed to the chemical dumbing-down.
    Regularly-scheduled vaccines with their aluminum, *Thimerosol (*laden with mercury…), benzine, and tabled element additives are now known and proven to cause autism.
    Hence, the kids in the classrooms are neurologically damaged and in some cases, cannot be educated.
    Those who are ‘educated’ are usually home-schooled, but refused any help by the MOE, MOH and MSD. and;
    IF there is any help offered, it’s for the PTB to get their hands on the children for nefarious reasons!
    No wonder there is a teacher shortage. The classrooms are now special needs and care centres that no one wants to deal with!
    Add bullying to the equation, and one can see that there will be very few ‘candidates’ for STEM Jobs, and higher Uni degree qualifications (IF ANY…!).

  4. not my moko his mama and papa are forever teaching him. he knew his colours and tocount to five at two, he talked rather late but once he started no stopping him. he is four, terribly advanced compared to his peers…he should be at school. teach your children well

    • Tend to agree with you.

      Covid lockdowns were 3 years ago. There’s been plenty of time for current 5 year olds to have mask-free interactions with people since. And while I do believe the childhood vaccine schedule potentially contributes to lower IQ, the fact that a lot of parents are choosing to decline the jabs should be pushing the trend in the other direction.

      It all comes down to parenting.

      And it’s a tough one because some people do their best (but work/life balance is terrible and bills need to be paid), while others are simply dropping the ball.

      • Vaccine Schedule changes from Health NZ website. “In 2020, the Schedule changed to recommend the first dose of MMR be given at 12 months and the second dose at 15 months.”

  5. COVID vaccine – it could be. However, I wonder if it’s a combination of too much screen time where “correct English” is not used and lots of abbreviations are used, and then transitioning to the real world where you are expected to speak in full sentences. Perhaps some of it is laziness where the kids cannot be bothered speaking correctly because they do not know what “speaking correctly” is. Too much LOL and GOAT and IMHO and so on, grunts for “yes” and groans for “no”. Also, the parents may not be as attentive as they could be, tired after a hard day earning just to pay the bills.

    Perhaps the kids should use an app that teaches them “correct speaking” then they get the best of both worlds.

Along with covid19 and screen time being reported as factors, please also be aware that MMR was altered from first dose age 12-15 months and second dose at 4+ to “In 2020, the Schedule changed to recommend the first dose of MMR be given at 12 months and the second dose at 15 months.”. In fact IMAC started this programme in 2019 due to a measles outbreak. Perhaps Andrew Wakefield did notice neurological impacts due to vaccination.
