Feedback submissions close this Tuesday 7th January 2025 at 11.59pm.

The Treaty Principles have become a contentious political issue due to their expanding interpretation by governments, courts, the Waitangi Tribunal, academics, and public servants, diverging from the original text of the Treaty of Waitangi.

These broadened principles have been embedded in various legislation and have gained a quasi-constitutional status without public consultation. They have underpinned several controversial policies, such as co-governance, Three Waters, Māori wards, and the Māori Health Authority, which were rejected by voters in the last election.

In response, NZ First seeks to either remove or clarify the Treaty Principles’ references in legislation, while ACT proposes a Bill to define the Principles in law. Although ACT supports pursuing both strategies, National and NZ First have only agreed to NZ First’s approach, with National supporting ACT’s Bill only through its first reading.

Reality Check Radio (RCR) have put together some templates to help those making submissions.

RCR explain the approaches of NZ and ACT are not mutually exclusive. “It is not necessarily an either/or, they can both be pursued at the same time.”

Submissions on the Bill to parliament’s Justice Committee can be made online here.

  1. I was reading some government site the other day. So much has been embedded into everything. I actually hate this country’s governments – all of them -but am too old to be going anywhere else. Time for a reform party here where race doesn’t matter.

    • We had a really good chance at reformation on a political scale, and that was with the New Zealand Loyal Party.
Turns out that Counterspin Media was trying to hijack the same with Masonic elements designed to sabotage the Loyal Party’s platform.
The NZ Loyal Party had a meeting (AGM???) to discuss the next move, but nothing has been announced, and even those who voted for Loyal and joined the Party haven’t been told what the next step will be.
      And-
Even if the New Zealand Loyal Party finally did get into government and over-turns the *Uni-Party political factions (*ALL of whom voted to mandate bio-weapon ‘vaccine’…and all of whom voted to kill us all off gradually using the same with forethought of knowledge of the vaxxes being dangerous…) there would be no doubt that ‘Operation Katipo’ would go full-hot and nullify the election results.
Other political party mergers never happened due to the egotistical personalities involved. but Liz Gunn offered hope via the NZ Loyal Party that could do so much for the country.

  2. “These broadened principles have been embedded in various legislation and have gained a quasi-constitutional status without public consultation.”

☝️And this paragraph right here is why they furiously oppose any discussions RE defining the treaty principles once and for all. They deliberately want those waters murky and muddy, much easier to run their various money laundering / Ponzi schemes and scams when the rules are blurry.

  3. We need a new constitution so we can move on as a unified country. Enough of the division. Enough of the entitled bloodline in the UK having any part of the parliament.

Why when the maori party won’t swear loyalty to the crown when being sworn in to parliament, do they then get their knickers in a twist about the treaty.

Get rid of it, along with the entitled family in UK

  4. As a local kiwi born and lived here all my life we need unification , we are not seperate , my children have Maori blood but we aren’t separated to anyone else. History is history and apologies are meaningless when everyone is still bickering the government has paid Maori tribes out for taken land it’s up to them to funed there own since they speak for each area .. entitlement to individuals is not something that is representive of all !! things must change and that is all of our nz citizens not just Maori ! The principles were added to the treaty which allows manipulation of the original document, No one can change this document Not all chiefs signed this document. ! I’m sick of the racial divide deliberately coming into this and manipulated by the few .
