The All Blacks have been forced to make three changes to their squad for the 2024 Lipovitan-D Challenge Cup match against Japan and the upcoming Northern Tour due to injuries.
Loose forwards Ethan Blackadder (calf), Luke Jacobson (fractured thumb), and Dalton Papali’i (upper hamstring) are unable to travel with the team on Thursday.
In their place, 21-year-old Hurricanes and Wellington loose forward Peter Lakai and 23-year-old Chiefs and Taranaki lock Josh Lord have been called up to join the squad.
Head Coach Scott Robertson said he was disappointed for the injured players, noting their focus will now shift to recovery.
“This is hugely disappointing for Ethan, Luke, and Dalton, but we know they will work hard on their recovery with the aim of returning as soon as possible,” Robertson said. He added that the changes offer new opportunities, stating,
“We are excited to welcome Josh back into the group and to give Peter Lakai his chance to wear the All Blacks jersey.”
