A Miami Open round-of-16 match between Gael Monfils and Sebastian Korda descended into chaos as poor lighting and rain interruptions left players and fans frustrated.
The match was suspended after Monfils requested stadium lights due to darkening skies, but officials struggled to illuminate the court, causing a 13-minute delay.
The unusual “stadium-within-a-stadium” setup at Hard Rock Stadium complicated the process.
When play finally resumed, Korda briefly left the court only for the lights to come on during his absence, causing further delays.
Soon after, rain forced another suspension, with Monfils skidding on a slippery surface.
Korda displayed sportsmanship by agreeing to replay a point contested under unsafe conditions, but fans and commentators criticised the tournament’s handling of the situation as “farcical” and “embarrassing.”
