UK football pundit Matt Le Tissier reflects on Sky Sports exit over controversial views on BLM and Covid

Former Premier League star Matt Le Tissier has opened up about his departure from UK Sky Sports in 2020, following the expiration of his non-disclosure agreement.

The ex-Southampton striker and Soccer Saturday pundit claimed that his dismissal stemmed from his refusal to wear a Black Lives Matter badge and his outspoken views on the Covid-19 pandemic.

Le Tissier explained that his social media posts often clashed with the mainstream media narrative, causing friction with his employers.

He also recalled a specific complaint from a Premier League CEO regarding his comments on relegation-threatened clubs allegedly exploiting Covid concerns to avoid restarting the season.

Speaking candidly on the Disrupters podcast, Le Tissier criticised Sky as an employer, saying he still hears from colleagues who believe the company’s work environment has worsened.

Despite losing his job, he maintained he has no regrets about his stances, though he admitted that friends and family initially questioned his decisions.

Le Tissier believes he was right on many points, even if not on everything.

He also took issue with the lack of separation between Sky Sports and Sky News in the UK, highlighting his frustration that his views on non-sports matters affected his role in football broadcasting.
