Palmerston North Airport is set for a $40 million, two-year makeover to upgrade its facilities and transform it into a regional transport hub.
The project, which has been in planning for seven years, will enhance seismic resilience, expand passenger and luggage screening areas, and increase capacity for more travellers.
Construction will require a temporary terminal, to be ready by Christmas, with operations shifting there in the New Year. While disruptions are expected, the airport aims to minimise inconvenience for travelers.
The new terminal, funded entirely by the airport, will be 5000 square metres and is scheduled for completion by late 2026.
