Paul Pelosi assault accused named as David DePape – questions raised over incident

Paul Pelosi news

A police phone despatcher was recorded instructing officers the man’s name is ‘David and he is a friend’.

Initial media reports suggested it was a pre-determined attack as the assailant allegedly yelled out ‘Where’s Nancy?’, a reference to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who was not home at the time. Democrat politicians were quick to characterise the offender as a right-wing extremist, and condemned the act as an example of the hate and division stirred up by prominent Republicans – a reference to former President Donald Trump.

‘It’s one thing to condemn the violence. But you can’t condemn the violence unless you condemn those people who are arguing that the election is not real’, said President Joe Biden on Satruday.

Democrat lawmaker David Price said, ‘Evidence now points to an unhinged individual inspired by years of demonization of the Speaker. This is what happens when responsible leaders tolerate the intolerable for political gain.’

Vice-President Kamala Harris also weighed in and said, ‘Something has been happening in our country where powerful people, so-called leaders, have been using the bully pulpit that they were given by the people in a way that is about the preservation of their personal power and is being used to divide our country.’

However, it has emerged through unconfirmed reports that the assailant David DePape may be known to Paul Pelosi, with a recording circulating of the police despatcher who allegedly took the emergency call saying the man ‘was a friend’ of Pelosi.

There are also question marks over the apparent lack of security at the Pelosi house. The House Speaker is regularly voted the least popular politician in the United States, and openly makes millions of dollars by trading stocks presumably with insider knowledge – a practise which has drawn her criticism for unethical behaviour. With feelings towards the House Speaker so high, where was the security?

Twitter sleuths claim DePape is a left-leaning member of the Green Party, who is tied to San Francisco’s biggest ‘hippie community’.

Paul Pelosi was convicted of drink driving earlier this year, and was charged with the death of his older brother David in 1957 following a car accident in which the younger Pelosi was the driver. A coroner’s court jury later acquitted him of any criminal wrong-doing.

Paul Pelosi was hospitalised for injuries following the attack.
