New Zealand First made two major policy announcements today.
The Marsden Point Refinery will be reinstated, and a full enquiry will be held into governmental actions during the COVID crisis.
Marsden Point
In a video announcement leader Winston Peters called the decommissioning of the refinery ‘economic treason’. The refinery was built 50 years ago to guarantee New Zealand’s fuel supply, he said.
‘An overseas-owned company is putting concrete in the pipes, drilling holes in them, to effectively stop us using this facility.’
Whangarei electorate candidate Gavin Benney said the refinery should be developed, not shut down. ‘The short-sightedness in shutting Marsden Point down means we are now relying on inferior bitumen, inferior quality fuel, which puts our country at risk.’
‘We’re announcing a policy to take back and rebuild Marsden Point so the essential utility of fuel supply in this country carries on into the future not just for Northland but for the whole of New Zealand.’
Peters confirmed additional aspects of the Marsden Point policy are:
- Relocation of Auckland Port to Northport
- Establish a dry dock at Northport
- New Zealand Navy to be based in Northport
Some big policy announcements from New Zealand First:
1. To take back and rebuild the Marsden Point oil refinery.
2. To shift Ports of Auckland’s operations to Northport and establish a dry dock.
3. To move the New Zealand Navy’s base of operations there.
4. To improve road and… pic.twitter.com/DR95HMcqN6— The Zeitgeist (@TheZeitgeistNZ) July 30, 2023
COVID Inquiry
Party Epsom candidate Tanya Unkovich outlined the COVID inquiry policy in a tweet this evening.
The inquiry will be a ‘full scale, wide ranging, independent, one year inquiry conducted publicly with local and international experts’, into how the Covid pandemic was handled in New Zealand, including:
- Use of multiple lockdowns
- Vaccine procurement and efficacy
- Social and economic impacts on both regional and national levels, and
- Whether the decisions made, and steps taken, were justified.
Peters told supporters in Whangarei the proposed inquiry ‘must not be run by Parliament, nor be restricted and narrow in its scope. This must be a public and wide-ranging inquiry – so that New Zealanders will know the truth and be properly informed.’
A big day trip to Whangarei and back today!

1) No they won’t.
2) No they won’t.
I was born at night, but it wasn’t LAST night.
May ‘Dig in at Marsden Point’ voice continue to be heard. I think NZ First has heard.
And don’t forget, because Peters has not forgot, article headlines of
23 February 2022
‘Covid-19: Winston Peters says Prime Minister should meet parliament protesters’
3 May 2022
‘Peters says he has been trespassed from Parliament for two years’
We have now multiple parties to vote for that are currently not in Parliament. May this election by the wisdom of the voters put in place a NZ Parliament that wisely puts NZ people before misplaced world agenda and propaganda.
Those ‘Multiple Parties’ need to form-up a massive coalition, and join forces over their shared concerns.
This household will NEVER vote for Labour, National, Greens, or ACT, and will vote for a ‘Minor party Coalition’ that promises to repeal the Firearms Restrictions (MSSA’s), Firearms Registration, and the inflated cost of a Firearms Licence (from $100 average to over $800!!!, as a method of Firearms Ownership Discouragement).
Not one of the major parties in government has passed legislation to enact price freezes, price caps, and the halting of inflation y removing the currency away from the RB and place control of NZ’s currency back under the Treasury with gold backing the same
Interesting how a long-closed gold mine in NZ has now re-opened, but where will the mined gold go?
Probably to the U.S. under Goldman-Sachs, who control the gold markets secretly and occultically!
Definitely voting for Peters.
He said recently he hasn’t entirely ruled out going with Labour either.
He’s too hard for me to trust. Fool me twice shame on me.
Not that he fooled me the first time either!
Winnie is ‘thinking big’
