Urlich was a member of 80s Kiwi new wave pop group Peking Man which had commercial success with the hit ‘Room that Echoes’.
Urlich was caught after he filmed a teenager in the shower of her Auckland home. In May last year he entered the property on mulitple occasions and held his phone though the window. On the last occasion the victim noticed a light and called for help. Urlich was later arrested and items from his home were seized by police, where additional videos were discovered on his phone including child pornography, upskirt videos taken of women in a supermarket and one of an elderly woman using the toilet.
Urlich had one previous conviction for making an intimate visual recording in 2017. A pre-sentence report disclosed he had developed a heavy dependency on alcohol and his chances of re-offending were high. He was sentenced to 2 years and four months imprisonment.
