Abortion leading cause of death in world in 2023

More human beings died in abortions internationally than from any other cause of death in 2023.

All of these deaths were preventable, and they died painful and violent deaths, by poisoning, by being sucked out of their mother’s womb or by being dismembered, along with their mothers being wounded, spiritually, physically and psychologically.

Abortion statistics compiled by the site Worldometers indicate that there were over 73 million abortions world-wide in 2023. The independent site collects this data from governments and other organizations and then reports the data, along with estimates and projections, based on those numbers.

Every child who was aborted is a child of God destined for eternal life, they were a unique and unrepeatable miracle of God’s loving creation. Each child was destined to be a mother or father of the next generation. The killing of these unborn children results in the devastation of future generations who are not allowed to be born.

There are currently 195 sovereign nations in the world. The vast majority of nations legally allow abortion up to 12 weeks of pregnancy. Abortion is legally permitted in 49 countries for health reasons, legally permitted in 41 countries to save the mother’s life and abortion is strictly prohibited in 24 countries.

The killing of defenceless and innocent unborn children gives grave offence to their Creator, violates human rights and is a crime against humanity.

The World Health Organisation and the United Nations both deny the humanity of the unborn child, as endowed by the Creator at conception with an inalienable right to life.

These organisations seek to violate human rights by having the killing of unborn children recognised as a human right.

The American Guttmacher Institute reports that in New Zealand for the years 2015–2019, there were a total of 86,400 pregnancies annually. Of these, 44,900 pregnancies were unintended and 29 per cent of unintended pregnancies ended in abortion.

When contrasting the abortion numbers to other causes of death, including cancer, HIV/AIDS, traffic accidents and suicide, abortions far outnumbered every other cause. By contrast, an estimated 10 million people died from cancer in 2023, 6.2 million from smoking, 17 million from disease, and 2 million died of HIV/AIDS. Deaths by malaria and alcohol are also recorded.

With 67.1 million people dying last year from a cause other than abortion and 140 million people dying in total from abortion and all causes, this means abortions accounted for nearly 52% of all deaths around the world last year.

These abortion numbers are appalling, each of these 73 million abortions worldwide in 2023, represents a living human being whose life was violently destroyed in their mother’s womb. Each unborn baby already had their own unique DNA, making them distinct from their mother. That DNA indicated if the child was a boy or girl, their eye and hair colour and their height and much more. In most cases the unborn babies’ hearts had been beating from six weeks gestation.

Right to Life is committed to continue campaigning for our Parliament to repeal the extremist Abortion Legislation Act 2020 and to legislate to recognise the unborn child as a human being from conception endowed by its Creator with an inalienable right to life.
