At the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Tom Walsh secured a silver medal in the men’s shotput event with an opening throw of 22.07m.
American Ryan Crouser won gold with a throw of 22.77m.
Maddi Wesche, competing for New Zealand, set a personal best of 19.62m in the women’s shotput, finishing just shy of the podium in fourth place. Sarah Mitton of Canada took gold with a 20.22m throw, followed by German Yemisi Ogunleye and Chase Jackson who won silver and bronze, respectively.
If was Wesche’s first indoor competition – a promising sign for the upcoming Paris Olympics.
In other events, James Preston set a national indoor record in the men’s 800m but did not advance, while Maia Ramsden progressed to the women’s 1500m final, and Geordie Beamish qualified for the men’s 1500m final.
