Department of Internal Affairs confirms 28 jobs to be cut

Department of Internal Affairs news

The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) has confirmed 28 positions at the National Library and the Māori, Strategy, and Performance branch will be cut.

The announcement follows the winding up of more than 400 jobs in the agency’s water reform teams. DIA cited the need to make savings of 6.5 percent, with job losses accounting for less than half of the identified savings.

The coalition government’s decision to scrap the Three Waters reform in favour of a new plan called ‘Local Water Done Well’ has contributed to the layoffs, according to state media.

Further organisational changes within DIA are expected to be announced in mid-May.

The news comes amidst a series of job cut announcements across various government departments, including the Department of Conservation, the Ministry of Culture and Heritage, and the Commerce Commission.

  1. 28 sounds extremely low.

How about ridding ourselves entirely of all the shameless pointless overpaid woke government bureaucrat parasites?

    Just a thought.

  2. New Zealand needs LOCAL GOVERNMENT reform.
The extortion via counselors, consultants, deputies, ‘friends-of-the-city’ mafia, olde boys clubs, ‘experts’, and ‘nice-to-have-BS freebees’ is unbearable and untenable.
These suckers design their own protocol in perpetuity, are a self-propelling nuisance and have over decades become self-propagating parasites.
And if all avenues of extortion are exhausted, they bring in the convenient all-permanating tyranny of ‘Health and Safety’.
Back to core business like essential infrastructure!
