Health NZ seeks staff repayments as $2B owed to employees

Health NZ news

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) has criticised Health NZ Te Whatu Ora for demanding staff to repay money given in error while still owing $2 billion in remediation payments to current and former workers.

The effort is part of Health NZ’s strategy to meet a $105 million cost-saving target by July, as directed by the government. A recent job advert for a “Legislation and Compliance Overpayment Officer” in Health Canterbury highlights the organisation’s focus on recovering overpayments, a role seen as hypocritical by NZNO delegates given Health NZ’s outstanding payments related to the Holidays Act breaches.

NZNO delegate Erica Donovan told state media she was disappointed over the timing of these repayment demands, which have surfaced suddenly despite years of unrectified errors. Health NZ has been locked in a dispute with employees over incorrect payments under the Holidays Act for several years, with promises of repayment continually unmet. While Health NZ has repaid $246.5 million to Auckland district employees, the remaining districts and former staff are still awaiting their payouts, now delayed to the end of the year. The organisation faces significant challenges in payroll management, dealing with multiple systems and agreements, which complicates both repayment and overpayment recovery processes.

  1. Anyone thinking electing yet more neo con globalists was somehow going to “magically” fix our country, when those very mainstream party’s are the one’s who over the last 35+ years have contributed to the growing problem are delusional, to say the least. No surprise that things that actually matter, like healthcare, with an ageing population, get ignored or what amounts to yet more austerity measures, applied.

Lets be honest, our tax money is being wasted to prop up the useless USA, in the form of things like so called military spending, for a threat that doesn’t exist, aside from the threat US imperialism poses, treating NZ as a tax colony, that is.

So stop voting for those who don’t care about you and back those who are real nationalists, placing our welfare, above all else.
