KiwiRail Chair David McLean announces early retirement

David McLean Kiwirail news

KiwiRail’s board chair, David McLean, has announced his early retirement, effective July 31, after notifying Finance Minister Nicola Willis and State Owned Enterprises Minister Paul Goldsmith.

McLean, who was appointed to KiwiRail in 2021 after a tenure at Westpac, stated that stepping aside at the start of the new financial year would benefit the organisation as it embarks on a new ‘developmental phase.’

According to state media, despite recent criticism from Transport Minister Simeon Brown regarding KiwiRail’s ferry maintenance program, McLean’s retirement is not connected to the recent Aratere incident.

McLean said he was proud of KiwiRail’s role in New Zealand’s transport infrastructure and its contribution to the ‘low carbon economy’, highlighting the organisation’s improved stability and strength during his tenure. He credited CEO Peter Reidy and the KiwiRail team for their dedication and support, which he believes will drive the company’s future success. McLean’s background includes leadership roles at Victoria University of Wellington, Westpac, and Kiwi Group Capital.

  1. Getting out of the way before World War Three visits us in full???
I wonder what pre-arranged job he’ll walk into….and we’re curious as to what the amount of the ‘Golden (Old Boy Masonic) Handshake’ will be worth!

    • Exactly. Another rat leaving the sinking ship.
They think they can run after having fleeced, but they can not hide, especially when the SHTF.

  2. Leadership role at Victoria university- says it all really doesn’t it? 🙄

Jumping before he has to face up to what a mess kiwirail is. 🙄

    Westpac too. 🙄

    Jobs for the boys eh……🙄

  3. A lawyer by trade, not a financier or an engineer.
During his time at Westpac David promoted a number of diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Probably promoted them also during his time at Kiwirail until the Aratere did a right hand turn straight into land then it became necessary for him to waddle off.
Shareholders demand infinite growth from companies that have clearly peaked, and men like this deliver by cutting overheads, starting with safety, engineering, testing, and maintenance. We’ll be lucky if we still have indoor plumbing by the time this one and the other likely lads are finished.

  4. As these creatures that are the inner workings of most governments and corporations begin to die off as per war, vaccinations, and the Deagel Forecast numbers come into their own for 2025, I guess the bastards will just have to start hiring / appointing those of us who never took the vax, and have kept our health up with Bio-Zinc, daily vitamins, Vitamin D3, Ivermectin, & Hydroxochloroquine…
Then, THE UNVAXXED / POLITICALLY IN-CORRECT WILL BE RUNNING THE SHOW AND REPAIRING WHAT THESE CREATURES DID ON A PRE-MEDITATED SCHEDULE AND OPS!
