Shifty Shellshock, known for his role as the frontman of the rap rock band Crazy Town and their hit song “Butterfly,” has died at the age of 49.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed his death at his residence on Monday, though the cause is yet to be disclosed.
Born Seth Binzer, Shellshock co-founded Crazy Town with Bret Mazur in 1992, originally under the name the Brimstone Sluggers.
The band gained fame with their debut album “The Gift of Game” in 1999, particularly with the release of “Butterfly” in 2000, which topped the Billboard Hot 100. Despite their early success, the band disbanded after their second album, “Darkhorse,” failed to replicate the same popularity.
Following Crazy Town’s breakup, Shellshock embarked on a solo career, working with Paul Oakenfold on “Starry Eyed Surprise” and releasing his own album, “Happy Love Sick.” He was also known for his candidness about his battles with addiction, appearing on VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab” and “Sober House.”
He is survived by his three children.
Irritating song. The stoners I went to school with all annoyed me with it in early 2000.
Sorry to see he took the jab though.
It hurts to see such beauty pass
Like misted calling looking glass
Where dreams are fairies in the grass
Awaiting recognition
The t-shirt challenge of a time
When simple as a nursery rhyme
The answers were to just keep trying
And find a definition
But understanding is a thing
A fleeting moment ‘s magic ring
A glimpse,a glance, a fluttering,
A flickering position
Aue rest in our memory
