Overburdened Hutt Hospital doctors tasked with cleaning duties amid staffing shortages

Doctors at Hutt Hospital are facing increased workloads as they are now required to perform cleaning tasks in addition to their clinical responsibilities.

An email sent to the Emergency Department (ED) staff outlined the cleaning duties expected of clinical staff, which include cleaning commodes, hoists, patient washbowls, beds, lockers, soap dispensers, sluice sinks, and biohazard bags.

One unnamed doctor told state media the additional duties were a misuse of their time, citing examples of making beds and fixing printers amid an already demanding patient workload. The doctor also highlighted the slow replacement of staff who resign or go on leave, leading to increased pressure on existing staff and extended patient wait times.

Despite these challenges, Te Whatu Ora Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley group director for operations Jamie Duncan stated that the cleaning arrangements are not new and reflect longstanding practices.

The email formalising these expectations caused concern among the clinical staff, who feel that the added responsibilities detract from patient care. The doctor reported witnessing lapses in patient safety, such as an elderly patient attempting to climb out of bed unattended. The increased workload, combined with the cleaning duties, has left staff feeling overwhelmed and questioning the efficiency of their time management in the hospital.

  1. Rubbish. Doctors are NOT asked to clean. Yes clinical staff are as they always have been. Standards in hospitals has declined radically over the past 20 years with patients now leaving hospital with infections and other injuries they never had before they went into hospital.
My father in law went into get a pacemaker battery replaced and ended up with Septicemia and scabies. His meds were constantly screwed up and on one occasion he was told sorry we have given you the wrong anti-biotics sorry about that.
How come there is no state of emergency declared for this very real health malfunction? There was one declared fro common cold variant with a mortality of less than 0.003% buyt not for this car crash of health system!

    • Not sure I believe that too. Chance would be such a fine thing to see a doctor doing cleaning duties. Someone’s telling fibs.
I do believe though that standards have been slipping over the last twenty years for sure in post op care, my father too had a shocking experience.
Highly trained surgeons and medical professionals in Madras and Kerela. Could not have had better care. It was not too costly too.

    • Exactly- if they had all joined together and stood up and declared mandates were wrong like in the UK, they wouldn’t have some sick persons Sh1t to scrape off a toilet bowl. I don’t have any sympathy for them at all.

  2. I don’t mind if the doctors have to do cleaning. Perhaps they might finally band together and SPEAK UP about what’s going on in our supposed health system. GET SOME BALLS AND DO THE RIGHT THING.

  3. So highly trained doctors are being turned into cleaning staff. Now I understand why I had to wait about SEVEN HOURS for treatment at Hutt Hospital. Lots of people waiting started leaving too, no doubt exhausted by the long wait.

Meantime, this latest loathsome National party led government crow about throwing millions at the Kiev dictatorship in their US manufactured proxy war with Ukraine and wasting money on foreign trips, so they can suck up to the likes of NATO.

    Genuinely sickening.

    • Well said. Globalist sell outs in National and Labour have been screwing us over and laundering tax payer money for decades 😡

  4. Cleaning is a quite different thing to caring. There are cleaning professionals and there are medical staff. I don’t believe that the two should be confused.

  5. Many have quit, including my daughter. My friend applied to hospital but they still require jab even though Biden says pandemic is over.
Even so, what next pandemic are they working on? More forced jabs?
I wouldn’t do that job for a $$million a year if a jab was required!
Besides, you take the jab to get the job, have a bad reaction. They can’t hire you now because you’re crippled! NOW what? Crippled and no job!

  6. Oh yeah.
The “health care” system is sick.
Maybe an experimental death shot might help?
    Or two, or three…
Make it 4,just to be sure before number 5.
I wonder what the problem is?
There’s a shortage of able workers now. Gee. Astounding…
    Doctors are baffled.
    Wonder why?
    Mmmmmm?
Not enough healthy workers plus a massive increase in sick people.
    Golly… What a total coincidence….
    Oh… NEGATIVE EFFICACY…
    OH TURBO CANCER…
OH… children with stage 3 alzheimers.
It’s almost like some satanic cult has taken over our govt and has injected people with death.
