Lisa Owen had a former inmate of Mt. Eden on her program a while back, describing the inhumane and torturous conditions of what he had to go thru.
1/3rd of the prison population does not belong there…
The other 2/3rds should be granted Home Detention where they receive the help of Social Services supported by Whanau and Marae Family Members.
The Corrections staff can no longer insure the safety of inmates, as noted in several recent attacks inside the prison system.
Not even the Corrections Officers are safe…
Besides, Serco has a horrendous track record with regards to civil and human rights globally, and being a private organisation, does not have to insure an inmate’s safety, human and civil rights as they are NOT a government entity.
I don’t ever remember any Corrections Minister visiting the worse of the prisons…
Elderly prisoners age 65 and above should be segregated from the rest of the prison population.
Nelson Mandela once said that if you want to know what a country is really like, one has to go thru the prison system.
Just because you’re in prison does not mean that you are a bad person- maybe the law was broken on a technicality, or maybe a person was steered or manipulated into a bad situation, or, as we are seeing more and more of, set-up by government agents to commit a crime, and then arrested, tried in a Masonic Court, and sent away.
After all, Jesus Christ went to prison as did the 12 Apostles,…Nelson Mandela…MLK…Congressmen George Hanson and Jim Traficant,..Malcolm X…Martin Niemoller…Aleksander Solzhenytsyn…Albert Speer…Martha Stewart…many great people have gone to prison either due to their beliefs, unknowingly breaking the law, etc.
There are so many laws on the books of the 5-Eyes Nations now that every day, the ‘Citizens’ of those nations commit an estimated 4 violations a day which would subject them to prison.
As Alex Jones has said; “They are arresting everyone in their attempt to get everyone into the system (of Law Enforcement recognition). Even being questioned / interview puts one into the system nowadays. Case in point: the Maori youth being stopped on the streets and photographed.
One does not have much control over their fate or destiny when in prison, enclosed or open air like the proposed :15 Minute Cities. E
Either way, both are violations of basic human and civil rights, but you will NEVER see Amnesty International or any other Human Rights Groups speaking out in demanding that non-homicidal normal people are given humane alternatives.
Those who are homicidal and have murdered, raped and harmed others should be in lock-up to protect the public with therapy offered.
