A two-vehicle crash on State Highway 73 (West Coast Road) in Kirwee, Selwyn, has claimed the life of one person overnight.
Emergency services responded to the crash, which occurred between Hoskyns and Bealey roads, around 9:30 p.m.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were transported to the hospital in critical condition. Police are offering support to the families affected by the incident.
The Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination, and investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing. The road was reopened at approximately 3 a.m. following the completion of the examination.
