Canterbury University has reported that over 100 students have fallen ill with a gastro illness, primarily affecting those residing in University Hall and Ilam Student Accommodation.
Paul O’Flaherty, the university’s Executive Director of People, Culture, and Campus Life, stated that the university became aware of the outbreak’s extent overnight.
The university is now working with the National Public Health Service to determine the cause.
While most students appeared to be recovering by Monday, support is being provided through UniLodge, the university’s accommodation provider.
Affected students can access free electrolyte mixes, bottled water, and packaged meals to manage symptoms like dehydration.
Students unable to attend exams due to illness are encouraged to apply for special consideration and may be offered a resit in the coming weeks.
