Police are encouraging any additional victims of sextortion by convicted offender Oliver Kiesanowski to come forward, following his recent sentencing in Christchurch District Court.

Kiesanowski, who was sentenced to five years in prison, was convicted on charges related to extorting explicit images from eight identified and nine unidentified victims. Investigators believe there may be more individuals affected who have yet to report the crime.

From 2017 to 2023, Kiesanowski posed online as a woman named Rebecca, targeting young men in the Christchurch area. He used explicit images obtained from his victims to coerce them into providing more material, often leaving them in a state of fear and anxiety that their private lives would be exposed to friends and family.

Acting Detective Sergeant Michael Hawke of Canterbury CIB expressed relief at the sentencing, saying, “This offender subjected his victims to prolonged fear and manipulation. We hope his imprisonment brings a sense of safety to those who may have felt unable to come forward.”

Police encourage anyone impacted by similar experiences to report their case, assuring victims that their accounts will be treated with respect and understanding.
