Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing a “breach of trust” and significant disagreements over the management of Israel’s war with Hamas and Hezbollah.
According to Netanyahu, the rift stemmed from Gallant’s public statements and actions, which allegedly contradicted government policy and undermined cabinet decisions.
Netanyahu stressed the importance of unity in wartime, stating, “Complete trust between the head of government and the defense minister is essential, and that trust has eroded.”
Netanyahu has reportedly offered the defense minister role to Foreign Minister Israel Katz, with Gideon Saar considered as Katz’s potential successor if the transition occurs.
Netanyahu praised Katz’s leadership, describing him as a “bulldozer with quiet strength and responsible determination.”
This marks the second time Gallant has faced dismissal; he was previously fired in March 2023 after publicly opposing judicial reforms he believed could destabilize Israeli society and its military.
That decision was later reversed following widespread protests, but the current dismissal appears set to proceed as Netanyahu looks to align his administration during a critical period for Israel.
Got to be good when Zionist are fighting among themselves.
Protests Explode In Tel Aviv After Netanyahu Fires Defense Minister Gallant
Israeli hardline minister Ben Gvir has hailed Netanyahu’s firing of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, saying the prime minister “did well to remove” him. But protests have exploded in Tel Aviv and elsewhere, including a growing demonstration outside Netanyahu’s house in Caesarea. This could lead to a bigger revolt among oppositionists to Netanyahu’s coalition, and gridlock. Israel’s just installed new Defense Minister Katz has vowed to defeat “enemies, achieve war goals.”
