The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is reportedly considering dropping its two federal criminal cases against President-elect Donald Trump, according to legacy media outlet NBC News.
Citing anonymous sources, the network claims that DOJ officials are weighing whether to close the January 6 election interference case and the classified documents case, given the DOJ’s policy that a sitting president cannot be criminally prosecuted. The move comes as a surprise, especially after special counsel Jack Smith appeared determined to advance both cases despite the political calendar.
Smith has been denounced by critics as guilty of conducting ‘lawfare’ against Trump in an effort primarily to interfere in the election outcome.
Legal experts have responded with mixed opinions. Former federal prosecutor Chuck Rosenberg described the decision as “sensible, inevitable, and unfortunate,” while former U.S. attorney Joyce Vance questioned the impact on America’s “rule of law” reputation.
The possibility of ending these high-profile cases raises broader concerns about the DOJ’s independence and the implications of presidential immunity.
Meanwhile, Trump’s legal team is preparing to tackle additional state charges in New York and Georgia, which still pose unique legal hurdles despite the potential federal case wind-down.
And get those innocent J 6’s out of the gulags ASAP.
Well as those charges were all TRUMPed up, no pun intended they should.
Going to be interesting to watch as the rest of the swamp gets drained and I also assume that DeNiro and the like who suffer severe TDS will be busy booking their flights out of the US, destination unknown, maybe Venezuala?
All of it was a pure farce and became meaningless including Brett Kavanaugh’s rape allegations. Why should we believe any of it? Just so the media can call him a convicted felon. They lost their credibility long ago.
Well fancy that. Maybe, a criminal case needs to be opened “against” the so called DOJ……they are certainly not impartial or fair….
