Auckland Airport has identified a fault with a communications switch in its on-precinct fibre network as the cause of widespread check-in disruptions, which some described as a “Third World disgrace.”
The issue stemmed from a malfunction in the domain of an external network provider, affecting a global aviation technology firm believed to be SITA, which supports the Muse check-in system used by 14 airlines.
Major carriers like Qantas, Malaysian Airlines, and American Airlines were impacted, with queues stretching out the terminal door, according to a report in legacy media. The fault disrupted internet access for affected businesses, forcing a switch to a different network provider to restore operations by mid-morning. Passengers endured long delays, baggage jams, and limited communication during the chaos, sparking sharp criticism from airlines.
The outage highlights ongoing challenges at Auckland Airport as it gears up for a pre-Christmas travel peak, with international traffic nearing pre-Covid levels. Airlines voiced concerns about recurring issues with the airport’s baggage system, urging swift resolutions to avoid further disruptions. The incident adds to frustrations over the cost and efficiency of the airport’s multi-billion-dollar redevelopment.
Despite these operational hiccups, Auckland Airport reported an 87% increase in underlying profit to $276 million, driven by a strong recovery in international travel.
Been waiting at Auckland airport for my bags for an hour because apparently they’re understaffed. Poked my head through the flaps on the conveyor and saw this pic.twitter.com/63KLIl0ZOO

The incremental ratcheting of the so called ‘cyber threat’, treated as a virus by your government, cured only by a digital ID (to access the internet and be censored); for public safety.

Cuts down on the shedding bad breath and body odors emitted from those who do so as a gentle reminder that we are all different
I don’t get good vibes about where Air NZ is headed
Crack head baggage handlers along with shady to say the least customs thrown into the equation
We surely wouldn’t miss the principle composite ingredients of chem trails barium strontium aluminum if We had the good fortune to see it fold
Fat chance of that happening with the govt 51% share
Which is exactly for that reason to keep the poisons reigning down
