Family First calls for public action against puberty blockers before 20 January deadline

Puberty Blockers news

Family First has issued a renewed call for public submissions opposing the use of puberty blockers in New Zealand, emphasising concerns over the treatment’s safety and effectiveness.

The organisation initially reached out to supporters in December but acknowledged that the timing may have distracted potential respondents during the holiday season. Now, with a January 20 deadline looming, Family First is urging supporters to take five minutes to voice their concerns.

The appeal follows the Ministry of Health’s recent review of puberty blockers, which highlighted “a lack of robust evidence” regarding their long-term benefits and potential risks for young people with gender dysphoria.

Despite the findings, the Ministry is seeking public feedback before making further decisions.

Family First has provided a detailed briefing statement and submission template to assist individuals in participating in the consultation, encouraging them to submit their views via an online form or email before the consultation closes on January 20.

The group argues that public input is vital to protect vulnerable youth from what they describe as “a destructive ideology” impacting health and well-being.
