Former Shortland Street actor Benjamin Mitchell, known to many New Zealanders as Dr TK Samuels, is currently supporting his wife and family through a serious health crisis.

His wife Kate, whose greatest joy is being mum to their 3 beautiful children – has been diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer.

Their daily life has shifted rapidly from normal family routines to hospital stays, medical appointments and treatment decisions. With the support of friends and family, they are both doing their very best to support each other and their beautiful children through this most challenging time.

Close friends and family have rallied around the Mitchells to offer support and a Givealittle page has been created to ease financial pressure. The greatest wish of those closest to the family is that they can prioritise time together and explore all available treatment options without the added burden of financial strain.

Support from friends, neighbours and even strangers has begun to build and whether it’s a friend dropping off some food, running errands or people donating to the Givealittle campaign, it all highlights the quiet way communities in New Zealand often come together around families facing serious illness.

Ben and Kate have been blown away by the support they have received in the days since the Givealittle was created for them and have since shared an emotional video message expressing their deep gratitude.

  1. Cancer is a growing problem worldwide, we have to wonder what’s behind all this. I do hope this family get the treatment they need and we elect reformist parties who fund healthcare in New Zealand properly.

  2. KATE AND CO — FYI:
There are many good doctors out there but be sure to look and see for yourself.
Do not expect all doctors to know much as many are often just big pharma puppets (often forced to be by the so called medical “advisors ‘ govt depts, and their over paid flap mouthed bs spouters sometimes erroneously referred to as ‘”experts”)
Never forget these told you and everybody the convid shot was “safe and effective” whilst they exempted themselves because they no doubt new full well what the poison would do.
Maim, sicken and kill – exactly as intended.
You have nothing to lose so have a good look, learn and make up your own mind which way you go. – don’t just be another ledger entry
