Three California brothers clearing out their late mother’s loft uncovered a pristine copy of Superman #1 from June 1939, one of the earliest and most valuable comics ever produced.
Preserved for decades in a cool northern California attic, the comic earned a rare 9.0 CGC rating and sold at auction for a record-breaking $9.12 million—surpassing the previous high by $3 million.

The brothers, who also found five other vintage comics, said their mother had long hinted at a valuable collection she never revealed.
Heritage Auctions, which handled the sale, called it a landmark moment in comic collecting, while the family described the discovery as a powerful return of forgotten memories and history.
