A shocking video has emerged showing Kentucky Sheriff Shawn “Mickey” Stines pointing a gun at District Court Judge Kevin Mullins before fatally shooting him in his chambers at the Lechter County Courthouse on September 19.
Stines, who was a longtime friend of the judge, has been charged with murder after CCTV footage revealed him firing eight bullets at Mullins.
The incident is believed to have been triggered after Stines discovered his daughter’s phone number in the judge’s phone. Despite sharing a seemingly normal lunch just hours before the shooting, Stines entered Mullins’ office, asked to speak with him privately, and unleashed a volley of gunfire, leaving Mullins dead.
The case has left the local community in shock, with investigators probing a potential personal conflict as the motive, including allegations of a “sex scandal” involving the married judge.
The sheriff, described as “calm” during his arrest, had previously worked as Mullins’ bailiff and was involved in a civil lawsuit regarding the improper training of a former deputy convicted of sexual misconduct in Mullins’ chambers. Police are continuing their investigation, with three cell phones sent for forensic analysis and Stines’ daughter interviewed as part of the inquiry.
