Nestlé issues global recall of baby formula over toxin risk

Nestle issues global recall of SMA infant

Nestlé has announced a global recall of certain batches of its baby formula products after identifying a potential contamination risk.

The company said specific batches of SMA infant and follow-on formula may contain cereulide, a toxin linked to food poisoning that can cause nausea and vomiting.

The affected products were sold worldwide, though no confirmed illnesses have been reported.

Nestlé said the recall was being carried out as a precaution and stressed that all other products and unaffected batches are safe to consume.

The company said customers will be offered refunds. Investigations revealed the issue was traced to an ingredient supplied by a third party.

Food safety authorities have advised parents and caregivers not to use the recalled products and to seek medical advice if they have health concerns.
