Using military force to acquire the island is not “off the table,” the American president has said.
US President Donald Trump has said he is sure that Washington will take over Greenland and that he has already had “absolutely” real conversations about annexing the Danish autonomous territory.
“We’ll get Greenland. Yeah, 100%,” Trump told the US broadcaster NBC in a phone interview on Saturday. There is a “good possibility that we could do it without military force,” he stated, adding that he would not “take anything off the table.”
According to the American president, the annexation of Greenland is an issue of “international peace” and “international security and strength.” When asked what message the move would send to the rest of the world, Trump stated: “I don’t really think about that. I don’t really care.”
A video shared by Trump earlier this week claimed that the island was threatened by “Russian aggression” and “Chinese expansion.” The clip stated that the partnership between Greenland and the US “is not just history. It is destiny.” Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that “Russia has never threatened anyone in the Arctic.”
The interview came just a day after US Vice President J.D. Vance visited the resource-rich Arctic territory. During his stay, he accused Denmark of doing a poor job for the people of Greenland. “I think that you’d be a lot better coming under the United States’ security umbrella than you have been under Denmark’s,” he said while visiting a US base on the island.
Trump initially proposed buying the Danish autonomous territory during his first term in 2019 and has reignited the discussion after returning to office. He has since repeatedly promised to make the island a part of the US, arguing that it is needed for security purposes.
The American president’s statements have drawn an angry reaction from Copenhagen. Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen stated this week that such actions were not appropriate for a close ally and were only “escalating tensions.” He also accused Trump of going “too far.”
Danish MP and Defense Committee Chairman Rasmus Jarlov warned in mid-March that the US’ aspirations to annex the island could lead to a war between NATO nations. Greenland’s prime minister, Mute B. Egede, also denounced what he called “aggressive pressure” by the US.
And get it the US will. Total population of Greenland – 56,500.
So far we have heard the protestations of the politically affiliated in Greenland and Denmark, but nothing from the general population. I expect a referendum would swing to the US rather than the NATO affiliated and EU administered Denmark, pretty much as a referendum for NZ to become a state of Australia would have had us part of the lucky country decades ago, without any of us giving a toss about how many career politicians and bureaucrats lost their cushy jobs forever in the process.
Nope, the so called support was drummed up by the US handlers, to create a false impression. The Greenlanders are emphatically opposed to the US taking their nation and based on its repulsive reputation when it comes to other territories, who can blame them.
Also dreaming, thinking NZ would want to join the US’s chief bitch down under, Australia. The toadying from our current bunch of so called representatives, is bad enough as it is. Australia is 10000 times worse. I’ll add, if it is such a wonderful idea, why has it not happened?
As for Denmark, I think they will negotiate but if push comes to shove they will fight and they are decent soldiers, so this would not be easy nor would it do anything, for the US’s reputation, on the world stage.
No thanks.
I don’t want to speak yank. I’d rather speak Kiwi.
Exactly! This offer for NZ to join Australia goes back to 1911.
And yet, there hasn’t been a petition or referendum in any NZ (s)election to do this.
North Island would be re-named Aotearoa, and South Island would still stay as ‘New Zealand’.
I would only agree to the above IF (& as ‘Sir’ (Freemason) Winston Churchill once said; “The terrible ‘if’s’ accumulate!”) Australia dropped-out of AUKUS, left NATO, left the UN and the WEF / WHO, and the NZ Loyal Party became the Australasian Loyal Party and merged with Lt. Col. Ricardo Bosi’s ‘One Australia Party’ and formed a coalition government with Pauline Hanson’s party.
But…
I don’t see this happening…and Kiwis will still be the slaves to the Zionist Global Order in all things social, economic, in dumbed-down education, over-priced food and fully-jabbed ‘health care’…!
So much has changed politically, economically and socially since covid. For one thing – until March 2020 most NZers did not have a clue about the power of the WEF until Ardern appeared on the scene but since then there are but few who are not looking hard at the alphabet language these dark players hide behind.
Since the 1960s New Zealanders have been voting with their feet but never has this been so apparent as since 2023. The sudden realisation of how easily this little country could be turned into an apartheid gulag frightened everyone. The borders were opened and those who could – left. They are still leaving and will continue to do so, hoping they can get out before Australia makes changes to Subclass 444 Special Category visa – which will happen because it was never designed as a back door to entry for those who were refused in Australia, came to NZ and were accepted, stayed here long enough to get their NZ citizenship and then left asap. We all know the special category is being abused and that times are changing rapidly.
The demographic change we are undergoing now is most apparent in schools.
US imperialism at its most blatant…….not that their designs on Greenland are new, by any means…………….
One word : MAD
The U.S. has had military bases in Greenland for decades, with the largest in Thule.
Goose Bay was the staging point for the cargo and airlift fleet on the way to Europe, and still is…
This is where the KC-135’s were supposed to fly to after off-loading their tanker fuel to the B_52’s enroute to Russia over the North Pole.
All of this is now obsolete with satellite weapons, DEWs, and Hypersonic Missiles, so Greenland holds no specific military advantage.
Trump is after the minerals so that the U.S. can quickly catch-up with China’s Qualtum Computer Chip manufacturing, and further enrich Tesla with more lithium, both for cars and the drug-addicted psychotic U.S. populations.
