A referral has been made to Police over election advertising shown by Giggle Entertainment.
Both the person who initiated the party election advertisements and the advertiser, Giggle Entertainment, were referred to Police on 2 November 2023 by the Electoral Commission.
It is the Commission’s view that advertising published in the week before the 2023 General Election was in breach of section 204H of the Electoral Act as it did not have prior written authorisation from the relevant political party secretary. Section 204F, which requires a promoter statement, may also have been breached.
As the alleged breach is now with the Police, the Electoral Commission will not be commenting further.
