New Zealand brothers Hamish and Oscar Day face legal troubles in Thailand following a confrontation with a police officer in Phuket.
The incident occurred when they were stopped for alleged speeding and not adhering closely to the roadside, escalating into a physical altercation captured on video and widely broadcast in Thailand.
The brothers are accused of robbery, obstruction, assault against a police officer, driving without a license, and bribery. Their parents, Laurence and Katrina Day told legacy media outlet NZ Herald they were deeply concerned for their sons.
‘They were just on holiday. It’s very difficult. At the moment they’re okay. It’s a very trying time,’ said Laurence Day.
The confrontation began when they were ordered to stop while riding motor scooters and escalated when they allegedly tried to prevent the officer from recording the encounter, leading to a scuffle and the accidental discharge of the officer’s gun.
Thai police claim the officer’s pistol was seized during the incident. Video footage of the tense moments has been circulating widely on social media.
What a pair of idiots, it looks like they’ll get an extended holiday but the hotel won’t be quite as nice.
Rough boys
More to come on this story I think.
Speeding on motor scooters? Not riding closely enough to the kerb? Hmm…
Sound like a couple of spoilt brats who haven’t grown up. Bad country to do illegal stuff in. I don’t have much sympathy.
