A group had their fun cut short after a visit from Police on Thursday evening.
Around 8.40pm, Police were made aware of a stolen vehicle travelling in and around Papakura.
Counties Manukau South Area Commander, Inspector Joe Hunter, says the vehicle was sighted a short time later at the Maraetai Beach playground.
“Attending officers located a group believed to be involved, on a swing set at the playground, and took all five into custody without further incident.”
Further enquiries have determined the vehicle was reported stolen from an incident on Wednesday this week from a Grafton address.
“These arrests are a great outcome for the victims, our community and our staff,” Inspector Hunter says.
“Our work has been greatly assisted because the public has ensured they reported this crime in a timely manner to Police.
“We are still encouraging our communities to ensure their vehicles are secured and any valuables removed, especially overnight.”
Five people, aged between 17 and 20, have been arrested and further action is being considered.
