Shane Te Pou says the silence was fueling speculation and both the party and Golriz Ghahraman needed to be ‘up front’.
Te Pou was speaking on today’s Morning Report with State broadcaster RNZ.
Green party Golriz Ghahraman is accused of shoplifting from an upscale Auckland clothing store, Scotties Boutique.
Despite the serious allegations Ghahraman has not publicly addressed them. The Green Party said that she was overseas on a personal trip.
Te Pou said there was a need for both Ghahraman and the Green Party to make a clear statement about the accusations, believing the issue should be a ‘high priority’. He criticised the party’s handling of the situation, suggesting that Ghahraman should have actively responded, either in person or via an online platform like Zoom if she was overseas.
Green Party co-leaders James Shaw and Marama Davidson released a statement admitting they have been aware of the allegations since 27 December – nearly three weeks ago.Te Pou said the lack of response was fueling speculation and potentially damaging both the party’s and Ghahraman’s reputations. Transparency and confronting the issue directly was the best approach.
Te Pou said Ghahraman will face a challenging time upon her return from overseas. While politicians were ‘human’ they needed to be resilient and upfront when facing such issues.
The silence could be because the real story is far worse than we are led to believe
Did she fly on a plane to go on that over seas trip? Seems saving the world’s resources and not polluting the planet doesn’t apply when a greens MP privately wants to go on leave. if you preach it, practice it.
Really lost faith in politicians and politics in NZ in general, its NEVER been as bad as it is now in my estimation.
Because, apart from a few morally intact individuals, the waspnest is full of parasites and psychopaths.
The sheeple are still too apathetic and uninformed. What does it need to wake them up, i don’t know.
