A former political figure is currently on trial in the Auckland District Court, facing nine charges of indecent assault against two young men, one of whom was underage at the time.

The alleged incidents took place between 1995 and 1999 in Auckland and Waikato. The Crown’s case alleges the defendant, who has ongoing name suppression, took advantage of the complainants by providing them alcohol and sexually abusing them when they were intoxicated and vulnerable.

The prosecutor detailed instances where the defendant assaulted the complainants after they had passed out from drinking, awakening to find the man naked beside them and engaging in inappropriate conduct.

The defendant, who is not a current MP, has pleaded not guilty to the charges, with his lawyer arguing that the allegations are not true and questioning the reliability of the complainants’ memories, given the passage of time.

Brookie argued one of the complaints had been investigated 25 years ago without any charges being laid, suggesting that the case should have ended there.

The trial is expected to last five days.

  1. Kiddie sex is normal with their cult.
At least these boys weren’t raped and slaughtered like the others.
8 million children go missing each year.
Luxon appears to be heading us towards these kind of exports. Supplying his sponsors. Epstein did such a great job. Nobody ever got busted.

  2. Rapists like that will mix drugs in to the alcoholic drinks for a quick blackout. It can take years for their victims to recover the memories as the effects of multiple intoxicants, intimidation and disorientation are traumatising.

  3. Why did this take so long? The problem from a legal perspective is the passage of time, at the long point a stretch almost 30 years?

  4. Don’t discount this being a hit job. Bringing these allegations up after 25 years is unusual.

Innocent until proven guilty even if it’s our political enemies.

    • I concur.
There are many convoluted reasons why people press charges after such a long time has passed.
Even worse if the issues had already been investigated 25 years ago and nothing came out of that.
But throw mud and it will stick like poo to a blanket.
When will false allegations be dealt with as what they are: a crime!
