Embattled Green Party MP Golriz Ghahraman has returned to New Zealand amid accusations of shoplifting.
The new development was reported today by State broadcaster RNZ.
The shoplifting allegations surfaced last week, claiming she removed thousands of dollars worth of clothing from Auckland’s Scotties Boutique before Christmas.
In response Ghahraman stepped down from her portfolio responsibilities until the issue is resolved.
The police are investigating an incident reported on 23 December.
Green Party co-leaders James Shaw and Marama Davidson acknowledged being aware of the accusation since 27 December, stating the store initially did not want the matter publicized. They also confirmed a second shoplifting allegation against Ghahraman. Scotties Boutique has declined to comment on the situation, and the police have not provided details on the second alleged incident.
A Green Party spokesperson confirmed Ghahraman’s return to New Zealand on Monday.
If she’s guilty….lock her up. Sick of MPs getting a ‘Get Out of Jail Free’ card. When she’s served her sentence….send her home. End of.
Should be treated no differently to anyone else….
