Police have identified the man who died following a violent assault near Hampton Downs last Monday as 43-year-old Darshak Narran, from South Auckland.
Narran was found with critical injuries on the roadside near the Hampton Downs Racetrack. Despite efforts to save him, he never regained consciousness and passed away at Auckland Hospital on Thursday, 17 October.
Two men have been arrested and charged with Narran’s murder.
They remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in the High Court in Hamilton on 5 November.
The investigation is ongoing as police search for additional individuals believed to be involved in the attack.
Authorities are urging anyone who was travelling on Hampton Downs Road between 10 p.m. on Sunday, 13 October, and 1 a.m. on 14 October to come forward, particularly if they have dashcam footage. Those with information are asked to contact police by calling 105 and using reference number 241014/2225 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 0800 555 111.
