Human remains in rubbish bag found in the Hauraki Gulf

A fisherman found human remains encased in multiple plastic bags floating in the vicinity of Gulf Harbour.

The discovery was made near Laurie Southwick Parade at approximately 3:15 pm today.

The police, treating the incident as unexplained, have secured the area for investigation, assuring there’s no immediate public risk.

Witnesses told legacy news outlet NZ Herald they observed a significant police presence and the body, which appeared to be an adult based on its size, was retrieved covered in a white plastic sheet. The unsettling event has sparked concern and discussions among local residents.
